The Predator Battles is a stand-alone expansion for VS 2PCG. You can play as the Predators or the Prey.
The Predator Battles is compatible with all the rest of VS system sets. That said you do not need to own them in order to play Predator Battles. Everything you need to play is included in this expansion.
If you have never played VS 2PCG, you can read my overview and review of it here. This post is going to focus on Predator Battles and the new things it introduces.
As I alluded to above the new factions are Predators and Prey. The Predators include the Jungle Hunter, Mr. Black and others predators from the series. The Prey consists of Dutch, Mac, Harrigan and other humans.
Some characters have a Bond with another one. Characters with the Bond keyword can be discarded from your hand to give the bonded character a Power Symbol for their Super Powers.
If you have not played the VS 2PCG Aliens, Equipment is new to you. You pay recruit points to place Equipment on characters and gain powers or stat boosts. A character may only ever have one Equipment card on them. If KO’d the character’s Equipment goes in your discard pile.
This might be the first set you have seen Amplify too. If a Power has the Amplify keyword you can discard the needed location from you hand to get the Amplify ability. It can be very powerful, but you must hold a location for it to work.
If you are interested in seeing specific cards from the Predator expansion, most are online. Just google and read about them.
The Predator Battles is a fun stand-alone expansion for the VS 2PCG system. Playing it was nostalgic and reminded me of the original film.
The cards look good and everything is up to par with the other VS 2PCG sets. The rules are easy to read and follow and full of examples too.
The Predator theme comes through and some of the mechanics reinforce the Predator universe. For example, Dutch has a fairly expensive Super Power, Get to the Choppa!, which automatically wins the Prey faction the game.
Two level two main characters, Mr. Black and Jungle Hunter, had errors. You can get reprints from Upper Deck’s website. The errors are small but annoying. It is nice to see the company be willing to fix its mistake.
I have played only the Marvel VS 2PCG until now. This set is fun and Predator fans will really enjoy it. I know you can mix it with the Marvel sets, but I doubt I will. If you are a fan of Predator and like the VS 2PCG system, buy this. If you have the other sets is nice to have but not necessarily a must buy.
