Aberrations and Undead is the first expansion for Tyrants of the Underdark. It adds two new 40 card decks to expand your game play options.
Have you tried Tyrants of the Underdark? If not read my review and overview to get a basic understanding of the rules and mechanics. This post is going to focus on the new Aberrations and Undead expansion.
The Aberrations cards force an opponent to discard cards or gives you bonuses if you are forced to discard them. Their interaction is interesting since all players can purchase these cards.
The Undead cards interact with the devour deck. You may have to devour a card to perform an action, get extra actions for devouring a card, or be able to treat the devour deck as if it were in the market. Some Undead cards let you mess with your opponent’s trophy halls bringing troops back to life.
I really enjoy Tyrants of the Underdark and getting more cards to play with is great. The new factions add a few wrinkles to the game without forcing players to learn any new rules.
The art on these cards is really nice. But be aware the backs might a slightly different color. You might also notice the finish is glossier on the cards from the expansion than those from the base game. I say might cause the publisher said this issue would be fixed in future print runs. I sleeve these cards so the difference isn’t very noticeable to me.
The new decks are fun to play with. The Aberrations are slightly more interesting since they might work better on a player that has not bought any (or just a few). Both expand your options which is great and integrate seamlessly with the decks from the base game.
If you are a Tyrants of the Underdark fan pick the Aberrations and Undead expansion up.
