Board game reviews, strategy tips & session reports
I have played a lot more expansions since the first time I made this list. So here is an updated list of my Top 10 Board Game Expansions. Games I have not played but have heard good things about are listed with the Honorable Mentions.
10. Pizza Box Football Expansion – Lets you play with your favorite team and adds advanced offensive and defensive play selection.
9. The Settlers of Catan: Seafarers – Keeps game play the same but adds some exploration and new scenarios.
8. Epic Battlelore – adds support for up to six players
7. Legions of Darkness: Books of Magic – This expansion adds new spells, guardians and new tougher bosses.
6. Nightfall: Martial Law – more minions, more cards…more fun!
5. Defenders of the Realm Hero Expansions 1, 2 & 3 – Maybe I cheated by putting these all in one, but the new Heroes all add something different.
4. Pandemic: On the Brink – This expansion has new scenarios, new game components and new roles.
3. Race for the Galaxy: The Gathering Storm – Having goals makes this game easier and more fun to play.
2. Thunderstone: Thornwood Siege – great when added to the cards in the base set or on its own.
1. Dominion: Prosperity – Brings new life to Dominion no matter how long you’ve played the base game.
Honorable Mentions:
Power Grid: France/Italy, WoW: Shadow of War, Race for the Galaxy: Rebel vs Imperium, Thunderstone: Wrath of the Elements, Jambo Expansion, Loot and Scoot: Loot Harder
IF 7 Wonders qualifies as a board game and IF its Leaders expansion came out in 2011, THEN, I’d add that one to the list.
I know 7 Wonders is a card game, but I throw all hobby board games (card or not) in the same bucket. Also this is a list of games I was INTRODUCED to in 2011 not games that I played and came out in 2011. That said I really do want to try out the Leaders expansion. Is it any good?
