Timeline: Inventions is a card game that is fun and educational. You must get rid of all your cards by placing them chronologically in the common timeline.
You start with six to four cards depending on the number of players. The extra cards form a draw pile. The top on is flipped face-up to begin the game.
On your turn you must place one card next to the card(s) on the table. If you think the card you are placing was invented before a card on the table, you place it to the left of that card. If you think it was invented after that card, you place it on the right side.
If you placed the card in the correct chronological order, your turn is over. If not you discard that card and draw a new one.
After one player has placed all their cards, there is one last round. If no one else has gotten rid of all their cards, the player with no cards wins. If more than one player has no cards, the tied players draw and play another round until just one player has no cards.
Timeline is a fun filler that will teach and maybe even surprise you. You’ll hear, “I didn’t know that!” and “No way!” a lot during this game.
The best thing about Timeline is how easy it is to play and teach and how quick the game is. You can play this with young and old alike. The game plays the same with two or eight players. It has a lot of flexibility.
The downside to Timeline Is that after enough plays you’ll have memorized a lot of the cards. This is great for your kid’s education or some fun conversation pieces, but will make the game less fun.
Timeline Inventions makes a decent party game, excellent family game and is great for a filler or when you don’t have a lot of time to game. The game may suffer after playing it a lot, but I expect expansions that will help negate that a bit.
