Board game reviews, strategy tips & session reports
Escape rooms can be a lot of fun but during the pandemic are closed down. But now you and your friends can play one entirely online.
The Escape Game Unlocked: The Heist starts with a video to introduce you to the mission and give you some basic information to get you going. You have access to everything you need to solve the first mystery.
Once you correctly answer the first question another is presented. You also gain access to more evidence and materials to keep stepping through the game. The clues might be images, articles, video, or audio. If you get stumped you can ask for a hint.
There are currently two volumes in the Heist series and more might be added. You need a internet connection to play and can even screen share with Zoom or Hangouts to play with friends you don’t live with.
My family played through both volumes of the Heist series and enjoyed it. Some puzzles seemed easy but others provided a good challenge. We did need a hint once or twice but we never felt overwhelmed.
The Escape Game Unlocked does a good job of using different media to create the puzzles. You will need to decipher codes, watch videos, and listen to audio clues to capture your target.
Though my immediate family did this together, it is nice you could set up a screen share and play this with a group of friends not in the same room. This makes it great during the quarantine.
