Red is the latest stand-alone expansion for Stak Bots, a robot-fighting, card game. More bots means new powers and more crazy combos.
If you are new to Stak Bots, read my overview and review of the base game here. This post is going to focus on the new things introduced in the Red expansion.
This expansion mostly adds new bots. I am going to highlight some here:
Bounty Bot – This guy lets you draw a card each time he scraps another card you draw a card.
Elephant Bot – These bots are very strong with power that ranges from 5 to 8. But they are instantly killed by any card with 0 power
Nice Bot – This fairly strong bot is related to the Bountiful Bot, but on entry forces you to give an opponent a card.
Pulse Bot – On entry this bot scraps all face-up cards (including your own) with the highest power.
Mace Bot – Though weak, this bot scraps the card underneath the card it damages and the card at the bottom of that stak.
Shark Bot – These bots are pretty weak but on entry they scrap one damaged card.
There are other bots introduced in the set. Sixteen total bots have been added with this expansion.
Stak Bots Red adds more bots and can easily be mixed with the base game or the Yellow expansion. We even played mixing all three. What ensued was chaotic and fun.
The art on the cards is great. It matches the feel from the other sets and continues the series’ light, whimsical feel.
The new bots are a lot of fun. The Elephant Bot is powerful but makes 0 power bots more useful. They can attack and kill the he brutes or at least stop them in their tracks (just like mice). Or Pulse Bot surfaces and blows up everyone’s power 3 bots. The combos and chaos just keep coming.
This series is great for kids. Both my son and daughter have enjoyed this game and the Red expansion just adds to the fun. If you have Stak Bots look for the Red expansion on kickstarter soon. If you have not tried the game pick up any of the sets at stakbots.com.
