Board game reviews, strategy tips & session reports
Mystic Vale is now available as in digital format. Read on to see if the app is as good as the physical game and what it does better or worse.
I recently reviewed Mystic Vale and after trying out the app I wanted to review it. If you have not tried the physical version of the game you can read my review and overview here. It will help you get a basic understanding of the rules and gameplay.
The app helps with some of the accounting and things you need to remember in the game. For starters, it tracks the number of Spoils you have flipped. It also makes sure you get that extra mana when you bust and calculate any bonuses you have from vale cards. Lastly it ensures you accurately count your VPs.
The digital makes building your cards easy too. You simply drag advancement cards you want to buy that fit into a card’s slot. You can click on cards to zoom in and see them better.
The AI has five different levels of difficulty and you can play with up to four players. If you prefer human opponents you can play online or use the pass-and-play mode.
Mystic Vale is a fun game and the digital adaptation is excellent. It looks great, has a challenging AI, and takes care of all the accounting in the game.
The app looks great. The interface is easy to understand and the cards look fantastic. Each card has a unique animation too. The tutorial gives you a good idea of how to play the game and how to control the app.
With five levels of difficulty you should be challenged by the AI. I still get beat at the mid-high level. But maybe I am just not that good at the game. They have started adding expansions too. So this game has a lot of replay value that is just going to grow.
I really like that the app tracks all the small things you might miss every now and again in the physical game. For example, I often forget to gain an extra mana when I bust.
If you enjoy Mystic Vale get his app. It is an excellent digital adaptation that lets you play with friends or with solo. Even if you thought of trying this game out picking up the app is an easy way for you to give it a try. It is available on Steam, iOS, and Android.
