The Star Shield expansion for Legends of Andor adds a new legend with new enemies, goals and components.
This post is going to focus on the Star Shield Expansion. If you have not played Legends of Andor you can read my review and overview to get a handle on the basics of the system.
This expansion changes the set up slightly. There are now multiples of some cards. When you set up the game you randomly choose one of those cards to put in the Legend card deck. For example if you have five A3 cards you put one in the Legend deck and the others are returned to the box.
New friends and foes have been added too. There are wolves that may befriend you and two new figures, Merrick and Ken Dorr. Plus there are six threats. The actual threat you face depends on a die roll.
Just like in the original game you need to defend the castle. But in addition you need to complete a prince task and fend off the threat. New rules may come into play based on the threat or task. Like I mentioned above both of these are determined randomly.
The Star Shield expansion adds one legend to the Legend of Andor series. And though it is just one legend it is has a lot of replay value. This expansion easily integrates with the base game and does not add a lot of new rules.
The components for this expansion are excellent just like those in the base game. There are new 3d threats and buildings. And everything looks fantastic. The rule book is an easy read and full of helpful examples.
I have mentioned it a couple times that this expansion adds only one new legend. That might not seem like much, but since aspects of the legend are random you can play it over and over without facing the same threats. In fact many players will want to play it until they encounter all the new things.
There are new heroes you can download here. It would have been nice if they were included but maybe excluding them kept this expansion’s price down.
The Star Shield is very well done. Everything is balanced, looks great and fun to play. If you own Legends of Andor and want to try some new adventures, you should pick this up.
