Jaipur is a fairly light two player card game. You and your opponent are traders, but only one of you can claim two seals of excellence and win the game.
On your turn you can take cards from the five face-up cards. You may choose to simply take one of these face-up cards. If you’d like to take more than one card, you must swap them with cards in your hand and/or your camels (which are placed in a pile in front of you). Your last option is to take all the camels.
You may never have more than 7 cards in your hand at the end of your turn.
Your other option on your turn is to sell cards. Camels cannot be sold, but all the other cards show different goods that may be sold. You may only sell one type of good per turn and earn good tokens based on the number of goods you sell. Goods that are rarer sell for more money. Good tokens that are taken first are worth more money too. You must balance that with the fact you get bonus cash if you sell 3, 4 or 5 goods at one time.
After you have sold out of three types of goods the round is over. The player with the most camels gets an extra 5 bucks. Once both players have totaled their cash the player with the most money wins the round.
Winning a round gets you a seal of excellence. Whoever gets 2 seals of excellence first wins the game.
Jaipur is a great game for 2-players that is fast-paced with a good blend of tactics and luck. While not very deep it offers a fun, quick game that two can enjoy.
Jaipur requires you to balance growing your set of goods to get a larger bonus versus selling sooner and getting maximum value for them. You can try to block your opponent from certain goods but the hand limit makes this tough to do for too long.
If you are looking for a quick two-player game that is great for gamers and non-gamers alike, you won’t go wrong with Jaipur. It is fun, easy to learn and plays quick.
