Board game reviews, strategy tips & session reports
Another year, another holiday season is here. I usually hate seeing anything about the holidays before Thanksgiving, but maybe people want to start shopping now. I think most of the games from last year’s list are valid. What I am listing here are additions to last year’s Board Game Gift Guide.
For Ages 3-6
Sequence for Kids – This game is fun for kids and adults you won’t dread it when your child wants to play it.
Ninja vs Ninja – This may be more for kids closer to 5 or 6, but it is fun, quick and easy.
Seven Dragons – Chaotic and fun. Even has rules for 3-6 year olds.
Mastermind Animal Towers – Great introduction to games of reasoning.
For Ages 7-12
Say Anything Family – This party game is fun great way to get to know your family and friends better.
Word on the Street – If you can spell you can play this fun, tug-of-war word game.
Castle Panic – Tense tower defense cooperative board game that is fun for all.
The Adventurers – Light, fun game about treasure hunting that the whole family can enjoy.
Sentinels of the Multiverse – Super hero themed cooperative card game that is simple and fun.
For Ages 12+
Defenders of the Realm – Great cooperative board game that has an excellent theme and can even be played solo.
Pergamon – You try to obtain research funds so you can excavate and exhibit artifacts in the Pergamon Museum.
Rising Kings – The old king has died and could be the heir, but you must gain enough support and influence.
For couples
Battle Line – Good card game with a variety of winning strategies.
Jaipur – Trade goods to make the most money. Plays fast and is easy to teach and learn.
Party Game
Timeline: Inventions – Card game that is fun and educational for up to 8 players. You must get rid of all your cards by placing them chronologically in the common timeline.
Incan Gold – Press your luck in the Incan ruin. Find treasure but look out for disasters.
Solo Game
Legions of Darkness – Solo, castle defense game in which you control your typical fantasy heroes and try to defend against the rampaging hordes.
Remember last year’s list has more good suggestions. These are additions to it. Have anything to add? Please leave your thoughts in the comments section.
I work for a board game publishing company, so I might be a bit biased, but I have two great board game suggestions. The first is Yikerz! It’s a magnetic strategy game, that comes in a small zippered pouch which make great stocking stuffers! The other game is called Pass the Popcorn, and is another one of our best sellers. This game makes an amazing gift for any movie lover.
