Board game reviews, strategy tips & session reports
We played a random assortment of Dominion and Dominion: Intrigue and Dominion: Alchemy with all the promos. Not a single Alchemy card was in the first ten so we played without the set. The new Stash card was the only promo card to be in the Supply. This was our first play with this card.
The Supply consisted of:
Bridge, Council Room, Courtyard, Harem, Ironworks, Militia, Mining Village, Pawn, Stash, Witch
Initially I had difficulty figuring out which action cards would work together the best. I bought a Militia and Pawn, a couple Mining Villages, and to retaliate against Jim, a Witch. Early on I was able to get to six treasure while using the Mining Village so I trashed it to get to eight treasure and buy a couple Provinces. Kim and Meredith both bought Stash and had mixed results. There were a couple times they were able to get three or four of them in their hands, but it wasn’t very consistent. My deck got clogged and the game took a while, but in the end I won!

This time I thought I’d try a similar strategy but fine tune it a bit. And although I am not a big fan of Council Room, I thought it might help me get through the Curses that accumulated in my hand the first game. Also since we were all getting Curses letting people pick up a Curse didn’t seem like helping them too much. I ended up going with a Mining Village/Council Room/Militia combo that worked pretty well. Letting people draw with Council Room but then making them discard back down to three because of Militia was fun. Meredith bought a Stash or two, but after seeing the results the first time through no one used it in their core strategy. Unfortunately I didn’t hit eight treasure often enough. That and the fact that almost everyone bought Witches this time lead to my defeat.
Scores:
Me – 17
Jim – 13
Meredith – 32
Jeff – 25
Kim – 22
I was sitting here trying to decide what combo card would improve stashes, and it occurred to me that these would go spectacularly well with the otherwise hard-to-play chancellor. A couple of chancellors and four stashes is a game winner, I tells ya. A game winner!
Wow; Meredith plays to win!
We are looking for new sets to play with Intrigue and Alchemy. Any ideas.
I can’t say I have researched specific supplies within these two sets. That being said you could make a random supply with the randomizer deck (or at http://www.dominiondeck.com) and then tweak it if you see better combos. Just swap out a less than useful card for a better one or if there are no cards with a cost less than 4 you could swap a couple out of the higher cost cards fir ones that cost 3 or less. Just experiment and I am sure you”ll find some supplies that match your play style.
