Dawn of the Zeds Second Edition is a zombie-themed solitaire survival game. It is similar to the original game, but there are some changes besides the upgraded components.
I am going to write about the changes and differences between the two editions of the board game. If you are not familiar with the rules and basic game play of Dawn of the Zeds, you can read my overview here.
The most obvious change is the upgraded components. The laser cut pieces and cards are more durable and look better than those in the original game. The new map is mounted and double-sided with new artwork.
The game now includes three scenarios (including the original), more heroes and a fifth track for the zeds to walk into town on. The new tutorial scenario helps new players learn the basics of the game. The Walking Zeds scenario can even be tailored to be shorter or longer to fit your taste.
There are multiplayer rules that seem to allow for up to four players. It lets each player select actions in a clockwise order. Each turn the first player marker moves to the left too.
The second edition of Dawn of the Zeds stays true to the original. It upgrades the components and introduces new scenarios and heroes to the game. This adds to its replay value and makes sure the game will survive the extra plays.
Being able to customize the length of The Walking Zeds is nice cause you don’t always have time for a long game. The new scenario is challenging and continues to offer fun and interesting decisions.
The multiplayer rules are ok but this game plays best solitaire. Some Event Cards give you one action and that kinda nerfs the multiplayer aspect. For some reason these rules just feel tacked on to me.
Just like the first edition, if you like zombies and/or solitaire board games then you should pick up Dawn of the Zeds Second Edition. If you like the other games in the State of Siege series you’ll like this one too. Check it out!
