Board game reviews, strategy tips & session reports
With just a couple days away from Tyr our heroes think of their cut of the money. It has been a hard excursion filled with danger and peril, but it has all been worth it.
Another day and night go by without event. The adventurers are able to navigate around some monster lairs and avoid other caravans. Their big paycheck is coming and they want nothing to mess it up.
The morning air is still a bit chilled as they pack up camp when on the horizon they see three mounted figures. For a moment they wonder if the travelers are friend or foe. They get an answer as crossbow bolts fly toward the caravan.
Rhotan Vor maneuvers the skiffs into a defensive U-shape and his crew hides beneath them. The party uses them for cover as they fire back.
Meldrick takes position behind a skiff and fires but misses one of the figures. Retaliating one of the figure’s crossbow bolts sinks into his arm. The wound burns and Meldrick knows they are using poison.
Clay and Otiril move closer toward the attackers and take up position behind different boulders. Again Meldrick is hit with a bolt, this time from the central figure. He fires back hitting three times. Arannis hits the same guy poisoning him.
One of the figures dismounts and hits Aram. His mount, a crodlu, charges at Otiril and misses. Clay charges full tilt toward the still mounted figures but just misses with his warhammer.
Otiril slashes the crodlu as Aram summons a battle spirit. His elemental infuses Clay who swings and bashes the human next to him. The human dismounts and misses Clay as his crodlu rushes the adventurers.
Upon getting a closer Clay sees the central figure’s crodlu is larger with barding. The rider spurs the beast toward Clay knocking him over. The rider feeling the effect of Arannis’ poison falls from the crodlu.
Meldrick gores the second crodlu and knocks it to the ground. The other crodlu does not fair any better as Otiril and Arannis gang up on it. Otiril is even able to knock it prone too.
The far figure fires and hits Aram. He heals Meldrick and dives under the skiff for cover. Clay is stabbed as he tries to dodge, still on the ground.
Meldrick continues to hit the crodlu as Otiril and Arannis finish off the other crodlu. Clay shifts to the central rider, pounds him and runs away. The large crodlu pursues with its rider not far behind. It pounces on Clay and its rider stabs him. He falls unconscious.
Otiril moves into position to help Clay, and Aram heals those near him. Arannis heals Clay who takes a huge swing at the large crodlu and hits.
Meldrick is able to kill the crodlu attacking him. The last crodlu pecks at Otiril and knocks him to the ground. Its rider joins in shooting and slashing him. Arannis hits the large beast and it finally falls.
Clay hits and kills the human pursuing him as Otiril is able to kill the other human.
All this time the last human has been sniping at the party, but has since begun to move forward. He charges at Arannis and gashes the bard with his long sword.
Aram moves away and Meldrick comes to Arannis’ aid. Having been hit enough the eladrin fey steps to the other side of the skiffs. The human follows leaping over the skiff. He swings his sword but misses Arannis.
Clay and Otiril surround him and it is not long until Otiril’s axe does the assailant in.
The fight is over and the heroes inspect the bodies. Clay finds a signet ring that Rhotan identifies as being from a rival merchant house. They also find a set of bracers.
Upon entering Tyr the party is given a nice suite at one of the Wavir merchant houses estates. The treasure is tallied and the group receives their cut.
DM Notes:
Pretty good fight. I think the PCs felt worried but not too threatened. As this was the final encounter I wish it would have scared them more. Overall a good adventure, there were a few hiccups but most were probably my fault. Good times!
