In Dark Stories you must decipher how someone met their demise by looking at a card and asking yes and no questions.
To start Dark Stories you choose a master. They select a card and show the front to the other players. It depicts a morbid scene and the players ask yes and no questions to figure out what happened. The master has the answer on the back of the card and reveals it once the players guess it or give up.
Dark Stories is not a game for kids or families. And it did not set out to be. The content and art is too grotesque for kids and they may not have the wherewithal to ask a bunch of questions until they get to an answer.
Dark Stories is less of a game and more of an activity. There is no score and no real winners or losers. Whether your group will enjoy this game depends on how much the subject matter bothers them, its lack of competition and their love of deduction games. There is not much replay value with this game for a regular group. But it is super portable for gamers on the go.
My group did not mind the concept or content of Dark Stories, but the pacing and lack of competition was not their cup of tea. If you think Dark Stories is up your group’s alley give it a try.
