BraveRats is a card game about two Scottish warring rat clans. Can you guide your clan to win four rounds and the game?
BraveRats is a micro-card game consisting of sixteen cards. Both players have the exact same cards numbered to zero to seven.
Each round you secretly choose a card to play. Once both players have decided on their card you reveal them simultaneously. The player with the highest strength card wins that round. Well usually. Each rat has a different power that can change the win condition or strength of other cards.
If you and your opponent both play a card with the same strength that round is won by the player that wins the next round. This can result in a few rounds resolving from a later round.
The player that wins four rounds first or plays the princess against their opponent’s prince, wins the game.
BraveRats is a clever, quick card game. This game can be enjoyed be enjoyed by young and old. Both gamers and non-gamers too.
The art for BraveRats is very good. I have a prototype of the game so I cannot speak to the quality of the cards. But if they are similar to other games by Blue Orange games I am not worried. The rules are well-written and easy to follow. There is even a chart detailing the outcome of all the card pairings.
On first read this game may seem bland, but it is not. The powers are well-designed and can be chained together to create neat combinations. There are also a bunch of variants that help to keep this game fresh.
BraveRats is quick to play and easy to take anywhere. It is very accessible and a fun filler. It can be a fun way to start a game night or play with your kids. If you are looking for a simple card game that plays quick you should keep an eye out for this one.
