Animal Upon Animal is a stacking game that both young and old can enjoy together.
You start Animal Upon Animal with seven differently shaped animals that you must get rid of to win.
A crocodile is used as the base of the pyramid and on your turn you roll the included die. The result will force you to place one or two animals onto the pile. Another result makes another player place one of your animals on the stack. Or you might get to place an animal on the table to extend the stacking base.
If, when placing, you knock animals off the stack you take up to two back into your pile. If you run out of animals first, you win.
Animal Upon Animal by HABA is a quick stacking game that kids really enjoy and parents can too. Younger kids can just enjoy the stacking without playing the full game. And older kids and parents can compete and use the full rules.
The components for this game are really great. Everything is bright and inviting and the pieces are durable too. The rules are straightforward and explain things well.
I like that really young kids can enjoy this game. I often have parents of kids under five ask me about games for their kids and I am happy to add this game to my list of recommendations.
Young and old can enjoy this and there are a variety of ways to play it based on who is playing. The simplicity of this game lends it to being flexible. Want to not use the die and place whatever you want? Go ahead. Get rid of all animals that fall? Sure. You can tweak the competiveness to match your level of players.
If you have young kids this is a no-brainer. Some game groups that like dexterity or stacking games might even enjoy this as a filler.
