Colt Express App Review

Colt ExpressIn Colt Express you are a bandit robbing a train. You plan your moves then watch them unfold and if you rob the most loot you win.

Colt Express App Description:

Colt Express is played out over five rounds. Each round you play two to five cards and then watch the action play out for the round.

You start the round with six cards. On your turn you can play one card from your hand or draw three cards. Your cards let you shoot, punch, move, loot, or move the marshal. If you are shot a bullet card is added to your deck. It does nothing but does take up space. You can punch bandits in a train car with you. If you land the punch you knock them to the next car but they’ll drop one piece of loot.

Before each round you are shown how many cards will be played, if they will be played one or two at a time and if they will be played face-up or down. You are also told what event will happen at the end of the round.

There are six different characters you can play and each has a special power. You can also play through each character’s storyline to unlock game variants.

The game ends after five rounds and the player that fired the most bullets gets a $1000 bonus. And the player with the most money wins.

Quick Review of the Colt Express App:

I have not played a physical copy of Colt Express but the digital version is fun. It reminds me of RoboRally and has the same chaotic feel to it.

The app has an easy to use interface and good tutorial. You will understand how to play and where to find things quickly.

Story mode is a great way to play through the game and learn all about the different characters. It feels more like a puzzle than classic mode but is just as fun.

I do wish there was a pass-n-play mode. Online mode is ok and got an upgrade that makes it better than when the app was released. So it looks like something they are continuing to work on.

If you like the Colt Express board game (or RoboRally), you’ll like the digital board game too. Just be aware there is no pass-n-play mode. It is a well done implementation of a fun game. You can play across different systems including iOS, Android or Windows.
