10 Days in Africa is a light, family game that plays quickly and is educational.
Your goal in 10 Days in Africa is to have a trip that consists of ten tiles. You may travel by foot, car or airplane. Foot travel means the tiles must be bordering each other. Traveling by car allows you to drive through one country (the second tiles must be 2 countries away). While airplane travel allows you to travel between two countries of the same color no matter how far apart they are.
You start the game by drawing ten random tiles. You place these tiles one by one in your tile holder that is labeled day 1 through 10. You cannot rearrange the tiles once you have placed them.
On your turn you draw a tile from one of three face-up discard piles or the draw pile. You may replace any of your tiles or simply discard the new tile. When you discard you will probably cover one of the other discard piles.
Once someone has completed their 10 day trip in order from country to country they win.
10 Days in Africa reminds me a bit of the card game Gin Rummy. You are hoping to get a certain tile for your trip and someone else may have it. You might even have to make the decision to look for something else mid-game. Especially if someone takes a face-up card you need before you get the chance.
That said you might also get 7 of your initial 10 tiles in order and be close to finishing at the start. 10 Days in Africa is random like that but still fun. It is not highly strategic but is a great filler.
For families this is an excellent game. My wife grew up in Africa and it was educational just looking at the map. You will learn geography just playing this game.
